Board of Directors of Agur Lake Camp Society for 2020/21

Sue Filek was re-elected President of the Society in 2021

Sue Filek - President

Sue  grew up in Summerland and lived here most of her life. She enjoyed a 33 year career as an Occupational Therapist working in private practice and in employee health and safety for Interior Health.

She is married with 3 grown children, is recently retired and loves gardening, running/biking/hiking, and traveling.  She has volunteered extensively within the community in the past, joined the ALC board in 2019 and is eager to contribute to such an important community resource.

Janice Mallory - Past President

Born in Montreal, came to BC in 1965, and to Summerland in 1995 after a 30 year nursing career.  I have volunteered with the Library, Museum, Food Bank, RECOPE, and for the last 6-7 years with Agur Lake Camp Society. I believe in the concept and mandate of the camp and like to be more involved with day to day decisions.

Ken Carlson - Vice President

Ken Carlson, born in Cranbrook, has a lifetime of work experience in BC. He started as a gas pipe fitter for the Inland Natural Gas company, and then became manager and owner of several plumbing companies. He has run a vineyard, been a relief gas inspector, and been clerk of works in two mechanical upgrades projects. Ken is an active volunteer in his community, he has sat on the board of directors of four community organizations, and been chairman for two of them. He is a member of the Penticton Curling Club, Skaha Meadows Golf Club and the Penticton Adventurers Club. He and his wife, Marjorie have two boys and a girl, and are grandparents to seven.

Pat Cook - Treasurer

Pat moved to Summerland from Port Moody in 2003 , with her husband and three sons.  She calls Summerland home now.   Pat spent 25 years as a Financial Advisor for BC Credit Unions.   Pat has served on Summerland’s Action Fest board for several years.  She loves to swim year around, and walk throughout our beautiful town.

Suzanne Newton - Secretary

Raised in Summerland, Suzanne appreciates the value of a small town upbringing. Having travelled throughout the world while working for Walt Disney’s World On Ice in the 90’s, Suzanne witnessed firsthand, the barriers that many experienced throughout each community visited. Those experiences, paired with her mother’s consistent example of serving her community, forged a path to non-profit work. While raising three vibrant children, Suzanne went back to school and in 2017, earned her BBA in Management. While in school, Suzanne was a member of Enactus, presenting on social community projects across Canada. Those projects greatly impacted the organizations they served. Furthering her education, Suzanne completed the Non-Profit Management Certification at Simon Fraser University, allowing her to further her skillset within the non-profit sector.  Suzanne is a part of the Advancement team at Okanagan College where she supports the needs of students.

He has been working in the health care industry for 6 years as a Health Care Assistant in Summerland and Penticton.  He works in the Penticton Hospital along with several care homes in the area.  He enjoys gardening, fishing and camping in the summer with his family.

Debbie Schneider - Office Manager

Debbie began work in the Society office in December 2016. Debbie moved to Summerland from Whitehorse, Yukon in November 2010 where she and her family spent 9 years. Debbie has many years previous office experience in both Whitehorse and Kamloops, BC. Debbie and her family fully enjoyed their years spent in the North and cherish the fond memories they created there, but were very happy to relocate to the sunny, warm Okanagan! Debbie is married with two children.

Toni Clark, Volunteer Bookkeeper, Chair - Charity Golf Tournament

Toni has lived in the Okanagan Valley since 1964, moving between communities but not wanting to leave.  She is happiest enjoying many of the outdoor activities possible in this four-season environment.  Her education in Recreation Management allowed her to focus primarily working for Non-Profits, and when not working for them, volunteering in some capacity.  Agur Lake Camp Society embodies everything she wants to support, and provides exactly the blend of a challenge and opportunity she enjoys.
